Healthy Living at College
2009-05-08
College is one of the busiest stages of one’s academic life. It is also the stage where students get more prone to an unhealthy lifestyle. We are talking about the smoking, alcohol, late night parties, cramming in projects, fast foods, and skipping meals.
Careful planning and a lot of self discipline is needed to stay fit and healthy, especially now that temptations are present anywhere you turn.
Here are some of the things you need to bear in mind for you to always be on top shape. Make sure that you read up on healthy food information before you leave for college so you are best prepared
Breakfast
The most important meal of the day is still the breakfast. No matter how modern you say your life is, this is a part of one’s routine that shouldn’t be ignored. Eggs and whole-wheat bread, fruits, or a bowl of cereals is enough to jumpstart your day.
Fast Food
Fast food is hard to avoid. If that goes the same for you then at least minimize your visit or choose your meal wisely. The number of health concern fast foods and restaurants are starting to rise. Some offer low-fat dressing for their salads, grilled or roasted patties on their burgers, healthy side dishes, and revisions on their recipes.
Drink
Again, we have fast foods, restaurants, and other food serving establishments to blame here. Aside from the food we eat we also have to put mind to our drinks. A bottle of beer, a glass of wine, or a shot of liquor each has at least 100 calories. Though studies show that drinking alcohol is good for one’s heart and blood circulation, consuming too much is always bad.
You must have been groaning with desperation when massive recall of products containing peanuts was being implanted due to salmonella contamination. Or, you must have been choking in horror due to the possibility that your recent purchase of peanut butter might be one of those contaminated products. If you’re a peanut butter lover or a lover of anything containing peanuts, then a halt in getting a daily dose of your favourite peanut butter brand must be causing you great misery. Giving up on peanuts entirely is not only unacceptable on a personal level but also on your well-being because peanuts contain a lot of health benefits.
