Doctors seek patience

2011-12-16

Without a doubt the economies of many nations have taken a significant hit in recent years. Many segments of national economies are suffering form a trend in the wrong direction. When an individual market sector fails, there are other firm components of the economy that keep things rolling along. In the current downturn, we see an unprecedented decimation of many sectors at once. The housing market has faltered along with other indicators, so people have been left scrambling in some cases.

Employment has remained a tenuous area despite some signs of recovery. Many individuals have been faced with a situation where they have been unable to continue working in their field. Others have taken part time employment to stay working in their primary area of expertise. Others have upped the ante by seeking continuing education toward the next tier of employment in their fields. Health care jobs are reflective of a sector that has job growth. Paediatrics doctor jobs are available in many areas because the employment sector is driven by the need for children’s medical services. As long as people continue to get sick, there will be a call for doctors to open a practice. The answer for some unemployed has been to move into fields that have a promise of future employment.

Measuring the Success of an EMR System

2011-10-22

To make sure that the EMR system you have in place is effective in managing all of the patient files and records that you have in your office or facility, there are several things you can do. Read on to learn more about some of the things you can do to measure the success of an EMR system. 1. List the units in your facility which are using the EMR system. Some of these units can include the pharmacy, laboratory, radiology and physician’s offices. It can also include the computers of your patients in their homes if your facility offers them access to some of their records. 2. Work with the individuals working in each of the units to get information about the important tasks that they need the EMR system. For instance, the pharmacy might have the goals of having an error-free drug and medication ordering system and the being able to use the system to notify physicians if their choice of medication is contraindicated for their patient or if the medication is not in the formulary of the medical group.

For the billing unit, they might want to make sure that the EMR system would be able to allow them to list every procedure listed so that they can easily print out the detailed charges to patients and third-party payors without the need for manual coding. 3. You should then set standards and begin collecting two kinds of data: quantitative and qualitative. If the paper-based prescription system produced an error for every thousand prescriptions filled, then it would be reasonable to say that a successful EMR system should be able to produce not more than an error in 20,000 prescriptions filled. You can then use the data you have gathered in analyzing the current EMR system you have in place. 4. After getting all of the information you need, you can then prepare a report which documents your assessment finds. Do not forget to include any other factors that you could test but are not unit-specific, including: the safety of patients; the satisfaction of the patients, physicians and the staff; and quicker billing cycles. These are just some of the things that you should do in measuring the success of an EMR system that you have. By measuring the success of your system, you would be able to determine whether or not there is a need to implement another system or to look for another reputable EMR software vendor from where you can buy a new EMR program which you can use.
