The brain is the most powerful tool we have at our disposal, and if we know very little about how it works, we know a little more about what happens with it when it gets hurt. And new developments in brain science lead us to believe that it’s not at all what we thought it was.

Before we though brain damage was a lot like a bruise on the skin: it would show its full effects relatively quickly and then it could receive treatment. Now we know that the brain takes time to show the full effects of the injury because it continuously tries to heal itself. And in some extreme cases it’ll take energy from producing new cells to heal the damaged ones, which may cause even more problems long term.

A lot of insurance agencies have a hard time giving out adequate brain injury compensation. You can fight this by being informed. Document every step of your injury, from the time you get hurt to all treatments and early warning signs of brain injury. Having expert diagnosis and eyewitness accounts of how you got injured goes a long way in putting up an adequate claim. But above all, remember to keep an early eye on early signs of brain injury and see your doctor as soon as you suspect something is happening.

If you are between jobs, waiting for a cover under COBRA or other types of group insurance policies, a self employed employee seeking employment only on seasonal basis, or a recent graduate looking for a job, the temporary health insurance policy will protect you and your spouse and dependent children. The policy that is valid for a period of 6 months only, offers you limited benefits. In certain cases the duration of the policy can be extended to an year too.

The temporary health insurance plan that is very popular due to it being highly economical is mainly taken by employers for factory and field workers and their families to cover any calamities and untoward incidents. The policy has been very handy in the recent period of economic crisis when a number of people became jobless making them lose their current insurance cover too that was provided by their employers.

Though the short term or temporary insurance plan do not cover regular medical expenses such as expenses on dental, eye care and standard medical checks, they are becoming increasingly popular. More and more senior citizens and elderly who are usually not covered under any medical scheme are taking this insurance coiver for their fatal health needs.

You must have been groaning with desperation when massive recall of products containing peanuts was being implanted due to salmonella contamination. Or, you must have been choking in horror due to the possibility that your recent purchase of peanut butter might be one of those contaminated products. If you’re a peanut butter lover or a lover of anything containing peanuts, then a halt in getting a daily dose of your favourite peanut butter brand must be causing you great misery. Giving up on peanuts entirely is not only unacceptable on a personal level but also on your well-being because peanuts contain a lot of health benefits.

An ounce of peanut five times a week reduces the risk of heart disease and dieters get a lot from peanuts in the form of fibre and protein. Aside from heart-healthy fats, it is also loaded with nutrients that are beneficial to health. But salmonella scare may not be going anywhere for a while so instead of whining and pining for favourite peanut butter or peanut products, finding for alternatives maybe your only option. Find alternatives that give you the same satisfaction as your favourite peanut butter brands.

Making your own peanut butter spread safely puts you away from possible salmonella contamination. Make sure that your surfaces and utensils used in preparation do not house bacteria that can possibly be salmonella. Clean them thoroughly so your cravings for peanuts will not put you in danger. You can buy fresh whole peanuts at grocery stores. A whip in the food processor and some butter and you’ve just made yourself fresh homemade peanut butter.

For your favourite peanut-containing snacks, you can get creative by dipping crackers or fruits to your homemade peanut butter. You can also experiment with peanut-containing recipes. A lot of them are available online. You might find yourself enjoying your own craft that you might not want to go back to ready-made snacks that are laden with preservatives. Besides peanut, other nuts can be whipped up into butter spread, too. Cashew and almonds are good alternatives. Almond consumption gives you some of your needed dose of vitamin E, magnesium and potassium, the same nutrients found in peanuts. Recently, health department have advised against eating pistachios so you might want to stay away from those though, for safety reasons.

Health is generally defined as the condition of ones physical and mental well being. Being physically healthy is not enough since it also includes ones mental stability. It doesn’t necessarily mean that if an individual is thin, he/ she is already healthy and so does being fat. Being healthy cannot just be seen on one’s physical attribute. Yes, you are thin but you are anorexic. Yes you are fat, you “look” healthy but you have hypertension and diabetes. It is of importance to keep our health stable since we cannot do more in life if we are always sick. Being healthy is a sure way for our longevity.

It is not simple to keep track of one’s health if you don’t give a cow’s breath on what you eat and whether you exercise or not. In this time and age, securing ones health is quite easy with the advances in technology and new discoveries in science. But coupled with this advances is the discovery of more complex and serious diseases. To keep things on track, we should always mind on what we eat, that is the sure fire to maintain healthy. Yes it is hard to resist all those mouth watering foods but we should not wait for the time when we could no longer eat those foods since we already have complications.

What we should always bear in mind is that being healthy has no repercussions, it has mounds of benefits but you have to make sacrifices to gain all those and to ensure a healthy long life.
